Dear R*********,

Poul, the owner of Angel Films wants to do the film. He still maintains that he doesn’t understand the story however. I am going to meet him wednesday morning, with Thor, our producer, in tow, to hopefully clarify whatever and pound the deal closer to home.

Being lazy (ethically, mentally and fiscally) Poul brought up the standard 60/40 financing and is willing to waste our time chasing free government money which we will not get. I am American. You, who I am fighting to bring in would be barred, especially as camera man, etc, etc. Also, the right-wing government here has just laid down new criteria for the DFI funding and it is being hotly crabbed about in the papers every day. It is pure bullshit and I will make that clear to Thor on tuesday, then Poul on wednesday.

Tomorrow I meet with Rene Dif, formerly of the band Aqua. He made several millions with some “hit” I’ve never heard, something about being a Barbie girl in a Barbie world, and, with his connections, can likely raise the 40% in a couple of hours. He is presently focused on acting, I do like what I’ve seen, and I initially approached him for the part of Khalid with precisely this impasse in mind. Needing a huge comeback, he begged me for the part of Mofo instead.
You get the picture.

Also, Angel wants to handle the distribution, which is lazy and greedy thinking, because Scanbox is the best distributor and they could put up the 40% if only Thor’s Danish employee had read the goddamn script by August 29th like he was supposed to do, so I’ll be on that as well.

All told, I should have enough information to face Poul on wednesday and insist on clear thinking. Also, Thor is friends with Peter A, the owner of Zentropa, and he has made it clear that he will walk the thing straight over there if we encounter any more Danish kamikaze maneuvers.

Hard week, but I should be able to settle this shit by the end of the month, which, here, means the middle of November. I hope you can pour yourself onto a plane.

Arrgh,
Tristano
