PASTORALE

c 2010 Tristan Winter

I saw Leonard and

Natalie dancing

            Red ice ripped all

            through the alleyways

Around every corner alumina gorges

Make it sweat no one comes in the night anymore

            their

sheets no disguise

The sunlight calling through

            them the dying

fieldrat

worshipped, raised tenderly aloft

            My friends’ teeth splayed

bloodied, dripping idiocy,

            like edelweiss across the valleys

A copper god walks

He told them yes don’t do it

I will give you a nickle

for every time I say that

Abaloneskin rabbits

            Here take this and

use

            whatever you have

left within you

            My first gun.

I want you to have it
